Maintenance Technician III

Maintenance technician 3 applies electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, electrical testing procedures, engineering mathematics, physics, and related knowledge to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment. This position is also responsible for the daily repairs and preventative maintenance of all equipment throughout the facility as well as any other electrical, mechanical or plumbing issues that arise.

Essential Functions:

  • Focus on safety at all times – safe working habits, safe work area, and follow all general industrial safety guidelines. Contact supervisor or team leader if any safety problems are observed.
  • Reads and understands electronic and electrical schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
  • Reads and understands mechanical schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of mechanical systems.
  • Design, install, maintain, and replace automation systems at key points in the production process
  • Troubleshoot non-functioning components including servos, sensors, and control components
  • Troubleshoot PLC hardware and software issues.
  • Complete IML Set up and Trouble shooting
  • Complete Heat Transfer Machine(s) set up and troubleshooting.
  • Log equipment usage, parts replacement, and scheduled maintenance to ensure maximum functionality
  • Periodically report to leadership regarding automation capabilities and status
  • Identify root causes of downtime, poor production performance, non-conforming product and scrap
  • Continuous Improvement through optimization of all plant processes
  • Required to maintain backups of programs from all electrical devices
  • Diagnose, analyze and repair electro-mechanical and instrumentation equipment using meters, gauges and other testing methods.
  • Apply knowledge in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic devices and principles to install, repair, and/or replace defective equipment.
  • Assembles experimental circuitry of complete prototype models according to engineering instruction, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components and their functions.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry of installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Understands and is able to trouble-shoot and repair solid-state motor drives, solid-state temperature controllers, and computer-based controllers.
  • Analyzes and interprets data from solid-state motor drives and controllers scope meters and other troubleshooting equipment.
  • Adjusts, calibrates and aligns circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance.
  • Must be able to check newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Assist management in writing and updating standard maintenance procedures and work instructions. Verify accuracy of work instructions in assigned areas and suggest changes to supervisor/team leader.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves equipment problems while demonstrating proactive maintenance concepts and employees’ best practices.
  • Complete/perform PM assignments and documentation as scheduled.
  • Effectively communicate with Team Leaders and Supervisors regarding safety/quality/production concerns.
  • Maintains good housekeeping using the 5S principles.
  • Provide engineers necessary information for continuous improvement strategies and assist supervisor in writing and updating standard preventive maintenance procedures and work instructions.
  • Responsible to attend any training classes scheduled by supervisor.
  • Identify need of replacement or of new equipment and inform supervisor.
  • Prepares work areas to ensure tools needed are available and in proper working order.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred 2- year technical degree or equivalent combination of education/ experience

Preferred 2+ years of hydraulic mechanic work experience.

2+ years of experience within electronics field.

Industrial Maintenance: 3- 5 years

Must be able to demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

Injection Molding experience is a plus

Previous experience with automation

Working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens plc’s/controls/protocols platforms is required.

Must be able to multi- task and work independently in a fast- paced production environment

Must be able to work around grease, oils, and solvents without adverse reaction

Must be able to work in a production environment, recognizing various sounds and alarms

Able to work with other maintenance, process and production personnel as necessary or directed in problem solving of equipment and production issues

Able to read and interpret, on a basic level, ladder logic, pneumatic, instrumentation, hydraulic and electrical drawings and manuals
14
Use of precision measuring, gauging tools and electrical meters
15
Experience with AC and DC motors, starters, PLC, capacitance & inductive sensors, relays, etc.

Lean 5s experience is a plus
17
Must have computer skills, with the capability to use email, compile reports and spreadsheets for parts and project tracking.

Must be able to manage projects for implementing changes and improvements.
19
Employee must be willing to be on call to support production needs
20
Must be able to work other shifts and overtime to complete work as needed.

Must be able to take a written skills assessment test prior to hiring

These positions hours are 7 am to 3 pm and 11 pm to 7 am. Over time is required when needed.
